MAVEX FILM PRODUCTIONS

Mavex Film Productions was founded by brothers Frank & Joe Ciota in the mid 90s with the goal of making broad-based, independent films with strong international themes.

Their first film, The North End, was shot in Boston’s Little Italy for under $100,000 and premiered to sell-out crowds at Shari Redstone’s National Amusements Cinemas. 2001’s critically-acclaimed Ciao America was shot entirely in Italy and featured Paul Sorvino
and Giancarlo Giannini. The film was released in 20 theatres across the country, earning a 3 and 1/2 star review from the Boston Herald’s Jim Verniere. With its international cast, music and settings, Ciao America was the first film of its kind, an independently-financed, international film.

The Ciota brothers most recent film, Stiffs, which stars Danny Aiello, was shot in Boston in 2006 and was the first film produced under the new tax incentive legislation in Massachusetts. The film is currently available on DVD.
